Springtime

When I think of woodland, I first think of trees but woodland photographers know there’s so much more to see, the intimate landscapes that the photographer has to work a little harder to discover. Usually these photographic cameos are overshadowed as the trees occupy centre stage but when springtime arrives the intimate scenes start to shout louder. Flowers emerge from their winter slumber. First the wood anemones shown in this photograph, then the bluebells (one is just about to open behind the tree stump) and then the elegant white flowers of wild garlic, all emerging from the fallen leaves to announce the arrival of Spring. A signal to the trees to start putting on their coats of leaves. Birch trees can’t wait to get dressed, oak trees take their time, but day by day, brown and bare becomes green and alive.
